Fountain with sculpture of a Cobra
Modeling of a 3D Object and a Sculpture with Corresponding Retopology
🎮 For this design, the intention was to practice sculpting a complex element along with its manual retopology. Therefore, I decided to create a fountain with the sculpture of an animal, opting for a cobra due to the versatility of its pose and the possibility of making water flow from its mouth in an attacking position.
🛠️ For the complex element of the design, the cobra, I essentially sculpted it in Blender using a couple of metaballs and referencing a photograph of a real cobra. Once I had the model sculpted at a very high polygon count, I used an internet-imported brush to create scales on the snake's body. To transfer these scales onto the low-poly model during the subsequent retopology, I used the Xnormal program to extract the Ambient Occlusion and normal map from the high-poly model for use in the retopology.
🎨 Regarding texturing, I unwrapped the UVs of the snake and used the Quixel Mixer tool to texture both the base and the cobra in a way that resembled a marble fountain with metallic gold accents.
