Lowpoly cartoon character modeling

Modeling Characters with Low Poly Count and Cartoon Aesthetics

🎮 This section is based on two separate projects. The first one involves the modeling of the elven character Keyleth from the television series "The Legend of Vox Machina." This character modeling is essentially a fan-made tribute. On the other hand, the gladiator and the Roman emperor were characters created for the video game "Coliseum of Death." Consequently, these two characters feature customized animations and body rigging.

🛠️ For all three characters, polygonal modeling was used. Instead of sculpting, they were created by manipulating edges and vertices, following the guidance of a model sheet. This approach resulted in a very low polygon count without the need for retopology. This technique is more optimal when the characters to be modeled have a cartoon aesthetic or are non-hyperrealistic.

🎨 Regarding texturing, I utilized Blender's native "Texture Paint" tool to paint directly onto the model using the mouse as a brush. To paint in this manner, UVs must first be correctly unwrapped from the characters. This texturing method is especially effective for cartoon characters.

🔍 Here are some technical specifications:

  • Modeling: 100% Blender

  • Character Animation: Blender

  • Texturing: Blender

  • Game Engine: Unity
